ಡಾ.ಜಯ ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ರಾವ್ ಅವರು ಮೂಲತಃ ಕನ್ನಡದವರಾದರೂ ಓದಿದ್ದು ಹೊರ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕನ್ನಡದ ಕವಿತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ  ಪೋಲಿಷ್ ಕವಿತೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಲಿಥುವೇನಿಯಾದ ಕವಿತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

And, oh so slowly … time slides,
And wounds heal.
Healed wounds become tattoos,
Portray pretty pictures
Like ancient frescoes.
To each person who visits,
The doors of history open, and
Inscriptions, murals,
Sculptures, and palm-leaf texts
Reveal themselves.

And in the background,
There is piercing silence,
And lava gone cold
With a million conversations
Buried deep in its bowels.

As time, with no mask of pretence,
Matures and days go by,
It feels like life is a dream
That streams before one’s eyes.

Let’s see what we have got here …
The mind has mellowed and ripened,
The pages of memory have gathered,
A lovely foreword to a collection of
Stories was written, and
A vibrant design chosen for its cover.

Smelted in the great fire of vanity,
Indifference, disapproval, and disrespect,
The being transforms into gold
And thus adorns its soul.
And if it encounters you
On the street unexpectedly,
It will most casually
Walk past you, and
Attain serenity.

And every line of the poem
You disapproved of
Falls into the laps of aesthetes,
Finds approval, and
Gains appreciation.
It takes what it wants,
It sheds what it doesn’t, and
Attains fullness.

ಬಂಡಾಯ

ಕ್ರಮೇಣ…ಕಾಲ ಸರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ
ಗಾಯ ಮಾಯುತ್ತದೆ
ಮಾಗಿದ ಗಾಯ ಹಚ್ಚೆಯಾಗಿ
ಪುರಾತನ ಅವಶೇಷದಂತೆ
ಚಿತ್ರ ಚಿತ್ತಾರ ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ
ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗುವ ಪ್ರತಿವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೂ
ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಕದ ತೆರೆದು
ಶಾಸನ ಭಿತ್ತಿ ಶಿಲ್ಪ ತಾಳೆಗರಿ
ಗಳ ದರ್ಶನವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ
ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊರೆವ ಮೌನ
ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು
ಒಡಲಲ್ಲಿರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಲಾವಾ
ತಣ್ಣಗಿದೆ

ಸೋಗಿನ ಮುಖವಾಡವಿಲ್ಲದ
ವಯಸ್ಸು ದಿನಕಳೆದಂತೆ
ಮಾಗಿದಂತೆಲ್ಲಾ
ಜೀವನವೊಂದು ಕನಸಿನಂತೆ
ಕಣ್ಣಮುಂದೆ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ
ಈಗ ನೋಡಿ…
ಮನಸ್ಸು ಹದಗೊಂಡು ಮಾಗಿದೆ
ನೆನಪಿನ ಪುಟಗಳು ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ
ಕಥೆಗಳ ಸಂಕಲನಕ್ಕೆ
ಚಂದದ ಮುನ್ನುಡಿ ಬರೆಸಿ
ಬಣ್ಣದ ಮುಖಪುಟ
ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ

ಅಹಮಿಕೆ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರ
ಅವಮಾನದ ಬೇಗುದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ
ಬೆಂದ ಜೀವ ಬಂಗಾರವಾಗಿ
ತನ್ನಾತ್ಮವನು ಸಿಂಗರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ
ನಡೆವ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕಸ್ಮಾತ್
ನೀವು ಭೇಟಿಯಾದರೆ
ಬಲು ಸಹಜವಾಗಿಯೇ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು
ದಾಟಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ
ನಿರುಮ್ಮಳವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ
ನೀವೊಲ್ಲದ ಕವಿತೆಯ
ಪ್ರತಿ ಸಾಲುಗಳು ಸಹೃದಯರ
ಮಡಿಲಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ಸ್ವೀಕೃತಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ
ಸನ್ಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ
ಬೇಕಿದ್ದನ್ನು ದಕ್ಕಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು
ಬೇಡದ್ದನ್ನು ಕಳಚಿಕೊಂಡು
ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
